since the inception of caller id itself.
In the early days

Spoof a call and marketed their service to
other professionals in the Private Investigator industry.
These serrvices were very popular with Skip Tracers,
Bounty Hunters and other investigative professions who needed
to remain anonymous during their telephone
conversations.
In
the next few years entrepreneurs began to start phone caller id
spoofing services that were available to the general public.
Today Spoofing a caller ID is as easy as calling into an 800
number.
The
caller ID spoofing companies now offer a range of value added
features. These include recording your calls and having the
ability to electronically change the sound of your
voice.
Faking caller ID has drawn the attention of
Lawmakers from the Senate to the House of Representatives, all
seeking to regulate the use of caller ID spoofing. But as of
this writing none of the laws have passed and spoofing caller
ID is Still completely legal in the United
States.
You
should also be aware that caller ID Spoofing companies will
cooperate fully with law enforcement and the courts during a
criminal investigation. They will most likely release their
records once a subpoena is issued to them.
From time to time you will see Caller ID
Spoofing in the news. Many news agencies from FOX to CBS and
NBC have all done stories on Caller ID Spoofing and its uses.
One of the widest know stories is when it was released that
Paris Hilton was using a caller ID Spoofing service called
SpoofCard to harass Lindsay Lohan.
